What Is Nivea

You’ve probably heard of the Nivea brand and even seen their products in stores but who are they and do they live up to their reputation?

For decades Nivea has revolutionized skin care and so their products are incredibly popular among men and women in many countries.

If by some chance you haven’t heard of Nivea however, or perhaps you have and want to know what all the hype is about I’m going to cover who they are and what they do.

Now, if you’re looking to find out what the best Nivea products are then I also have you covered with that as we have a buyer’s guide on the best Nivea products for men. So check that out for any recommendations on hair and skincare products.

Now, let’s see where Nivea stacks up compared to the wider global market.

History Of The Nivea Brand

Nivea was created in Germany, in 1911 where they revolutionized skincare with their famous Nivea creme (cream). However, it was;t until during World War II that Nivea became known globally after it was expropriated. It was then bought back by its owner and now millions of people all over the world consume Nivea products. they’re now one of the most recognizable brands in the skincare industry.

Nivea has long created skincare products for every skin type and has since developed numerous innovative skincare products over the past few decades. Their claim to fame is the Nivea cream but they also have other skin products as well as deodorants, and even sunscreen.

Now, this bit is impressive: As the Nivea brand expanded they took greater care ensuring the quality of their products always remained and as a result, they work with 50 institutions around the world to make sure that their products are suitable for your skin.

And then there’s the extra mile Nivea have gone with their headquarters in Hamburg where they have even set up their own laboratory for Asia and Latin America. It’s here that they conduct research specifically aimed at skin types and climate conditions found in those regions.

So what does all of this mean?

Well, the most important takeaway from this is that it means Nivea understands skin, not only have they been doing this for over a century, but they go to great lengths to build trust with us consumers by prioritizing quality and effectiveness with sensitive skin that may be irritated easily.

Nivea and the Sun

I think the most impressive innovation from Nivea has been their work throughout the decades in developing sun protection and being one of the first brands to connect skin cancer and premature ageing with exposure to the sun.

It was in the 60s and 70s that Nivea scientists first began establishing the link between sun exposure and the now commonly known adverse effects that can come from it. As a result of this discovery, Nivea formulated groundbreaking products that protected people from these effects. And these innovations just kept coming as the years went on. here are some of Nivea’s most notable inventions:

– Sunscreens with SPF, or sun protection factor

– Spray-on sunscreen

– Moisturising sun creams

– Specialised products for children, babies and sensitive skin

Protection from the sun will always be necessary and many more people are beginning to take the dangers seriously so it’s a good job there are brands out there like Nivea that are creating skin cream capable of protecting us from those harmful rays.

Nivea For Men

Nivea first introduced products for men in 1922, NIVEA Shaving Soap, followed a few years later by shaving foam. At the time, skincare products for men were non-existent and consisted of soap and water so Nivea took advantage of the gap in the market.

Then, again in 1980, they set another trend by releasing alcohol-free After Shave Balm. For the first time, men had an affordable and widely available aftershave that soothed and relieved the irritation of shaving, rather than adding to it. This seemingly small change created a massive shift in men’s skincare.

Men’s products from Nivea are now extensive and range from creams to electric razors. As well as other things like oil control, anti-ageing, face scrubs, and body washes. The line-up of NIVEA for Men products has multiplied since that first jar of shaving soap. And it will continue to evolve as the skincare needs of men evolve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What other brands are good for men?

Another famous brand known for its quality is L’Oreal. If you want to find out more about them then check out my rand review: L’Oreal for Men: Worth the Hype?

How is the tolerance of NIVEA MEN products tested?

The skin tolerance of Nivea products is carefully tested before the products are released for distribution. These tests are carried out in their research department and by independent research institutes. However, it is not possible to fully exclude the occurrence of an intolerance reaction which can be caused by individual over-sensitivity to one of the ingredients.

Do I need different facial products in winter/with low temperatures than in summer?

Low temperatures and the air in heated rooms dry out your skin faster. Since the moisture requirements of your skin are increased, richer creams that not only moisturise your skin but also help to retain the moisture for longer are advisable in winter.  In addition, a lower sun protection factor is normally required. The use of a rich night care product is also recommended in the winter season.
