CURLY HAIR MEN STRAIGHTEN

How To Straighten Short Curly Hair For Guys:

There are a few different ways you can quickly straighten your locks using styling tools, whether you want a bouncy finish with a slight wave using your hairdryer or a sleek straight finish using a flat iron.

You’ll also need some styling products handy to help you do the job, no matter your hair type.

Blow Dry Using Round Brush:

The first and most classic way to straighten curly or tangled hair is to blow dry hair with a round brush. A round brush is a handy tool have, to create many hairstyles, and they are brilliant for adding volume.

Depending on the size of the barrel, you can smooth your curls and add in more of a wave, while larger ones can help give a straight but voluminous finish.

Hot Air Brushes:

Hot air brushes are another brilliant tool to have. They act as a blow dryer and hair straightening tool all in one. They come in a brush form, ofter in the shape of a round brush or oval brush.

So if you’re a little clumsy and struggle to style with two hands, you can use this tool instead; it frees up one hand and makes blow-dry styling that much easier.

It will achieve the same salon quality finish as if you went into the salon, but for best results, let your hair naturally air dry around 70-80%. If you have short hair, this should take roughly half an hour.

Or even if you give your hair a good dry with your towel, this should help dry your hair faster. I recommend using a microfiber towel over a cotton towel as cotton towels are the top culprit of frizz.

Flat Iron:

After blow-drying your hair, you can alternatively use a flat iron over your curls, this is the technique that may cause the most damage, but when used with the right heat protectant, it can protect your hair against unnecessary heat damage.

Flat irons nowadays use advanced technology such as ionic technology and ionic plates, which work to hydrate the hair, reduce frizz, and cause minimal damage when straightening your hair.

How To Straighten Curly Hair Using A Blow Dryer:

So after choosing any of the tools above, you will need to use this technique to straighten your curls quickly at home.

Step One: Wash Your Hair:

You’ll want to start with a blank canvas before you blow-dry or straighten your curls, especially if you tend to use gels and waxes to style your curls, so firsts things first, you’ll need to hop in the shower.

If you have curly hair, I recommend switching to a sulfate-free clarifying shampoo over the 6-in-1 shampoo for face, body, hair, floor, car, dishwasher… Whatever concoction you men use to clean your hair.

This multiple-purpose shampoo may actually be the reason for your frizz, so do yourself a favor and switch to a sulfate-free alternative; it’s much kinder to hair, bonus points if you use a detangling shampoo.

I would also recommend using a hydrating conditioner; this ensures your hair is soft and easy to manage and detangle, especially if you have tight curls.

Step Two: Apply Leave Ins:

Next up is to apply a leave-in conditioner, heat protectant spray, and any other relaxing treatment you want to use for straighter hair. You can also apply argan oil or olive oil as a moisturizer if you prefer.

You want to apply your leave-in conditioner or oils to soaking wet hair, massaging it from the root to the tip. Then comb your hair in a straight manner to detangle any knots.

Be patient and try not to snag or pull hair; this can damage the curl pattern. You can apply your heat protectant to damp hair just before you blow-dry.

Step Three: Blow Dry:

Set your hair dryer on medium heat and comb your hair as you blow-dry. You can also use a concentrator nozzle to help achieve that straight look without using hair straighteners.

You can either use a comb or a round brush; a round brush should help create more volume when blow-drying try not to keep the blow dryer in one part of the hair for too long to avoid heat damage.

If you’re using a round brush, wrap your hair around the brush and lift upwards to create tension, this should gradually straighten your hair.

Step Four: Apply Serum:

Once your hair is completely dry and you’re happy with the finish, you can add serum to the ends. This will help prevent frizz and add shine to the hair.

Just apply a little at the tips of your hair; a couple of pumps will be enough; otherwise, your hair may look greasy.

How To Straighten Men’s Curly Hair Using A Flat Iron:

If you’re after more of a sleek straight hair look, then alternatively, you can use a flat iron on your curly or wavy hair after using the blow dryer. Hair straighteners will smooth the hair strands until they are dead straight.

Here’s everything you need to know about straightening hair with a flat iron.

Step One: Wash Your Hair:

Just like blow-drying your hair, you’re going to want to start on a blank canvas before you straighten hair. So make sure you wash and condition your hair before using the flat iron.

I would also recommend using a detangling leave-in conditioner; this should make combing through your curly or tangled hair much easier.

Step Two: Apply Heat Protectant:

Before blow-drying your hair, makes sure you apply a heat protectant to your damp hair; this could be a heat protection serum or heat protectant spray.

Massage your heat protectant from the root to the tip; this will help protect the hair from heat damage when using the flat iron and blow dryer.

You can either let your hair air dry or blow dry hair to give it a bit of volume; if you have thinner hair, you should blow-dry beforehand to add a bit of body to the hair.

Before you use your flat iron, make sure your hair is completely dry as if your hair is still slightly damp, the hair straightener will fry the ends of your hair and cause heat damage.

Step Three: Straighten In Sections:

After your hair is completely dry, set your flat iron to the lowest heat and straighten your strands in sections using a comb, roughly 1-inch sections are ideal.

Clamp the plates on the strand of hair and use the comb to guide it through and straighten hair. If you blow-dry your hair smooth, it should help speed up the straightening process and prevent you from having to run it over again.

Slide the flat iron upwards when straightening hair, especially if you want a slicked-back look, or if you prefer, you can straighten your hair to the side.

Step Four: Use Hair Spray:

To lock in the hair straightening style you’ve just created, use a little bit of hair spray to hold it in place, and then you will be left with a straight hair look.

Never forget your heat protectant, as it will protect your hair from heat damage.

How To Straighten Curly Beard Hair:

First things first, you’ll want to prepare your beard before straightening, starting with washing your beard and hair. If your curly beard is very long, I recommend shampoo and conditioning; this will help to detangle.

Once you’re out of the shower, gently apply a silicone cream to your facial hair; this should help smooth the curls and fuzz. Give your beard a towel dry, and then use a heat protectant.

Use the comb and blow dryer to straighten the curls in your fuzz. Use a concentrator nozzle as this should help smooth out the frizzy parts. The silicone should help keep your beard straight for the entire day.

Here Are Some Extra Tips:

  • – Avoid using the blow dryer on hot heat; this will make your strands brittle. Also, don’t go too mad on the silicone cream; a little goes a long way when you want to straighten hair.
  • – Always try to rehydrate your hair strands afterward using high-quality beard oil.
  • – Always rehydrate your hair strands with high-quality beard oil.
  • – Make sure on the days where you don’t wash your beard to damp down the hair before you use the silicone cream.

Different Ways To Straighten Men’s Hair Naturally

For many of us, we don’t want to use heat on our curls, so there are some natural methods using some at-home remedies that are probably lying around in your cupboard at home!

Coconut Milk Spray:

Coconut milk acts as a brilliant straightening conditioner; coconut milk is known to straighten the hair to an extent naturally permanently.

It naturally conditions your hair strands and works wonders for smoothing the cuticle, making curly hair appear naturally straighter. It works on any hair type.

So grab a spray bottle and add 1/3 cup of milk in it, you can either use cow’s milk or coconut milk, but I prefer coconut milk. Coconut oil is another brilliant ingredient to use instead.

After shampooing your hair, spray the coconut milk to your hair and use a wide-tooth comb to run it through the strands; it should help the coconut milk penetrate the hair and scalp.

Leave it on for 30 minutes and then wash it out; your hair should feel silky smooth and appear straighter.

Eggs:

Eggs are another brilliant natural remedy to straighten short curly hair and help add volume. Using two fresh eggs, break them into a bowl and add three tablespoons of olive oil to the mixture.

Whisk the mixture together and apply it to your hair, leaving it on for an hour or two before washing it off with shampoo and cold water.

Eggs can naturally straighten hair strands along with nourish any hair type.

Keratin Treatment:

Another brilliant way to naturally straighten hair is through a keratin treatment, a Brazilian blowout. It is similar to a perm where chemicals are applied to the hair and straightened with a flat iron.

This chemical treatment usually lasts until your hair grows out, so between 3-6 months.

The keratin treatment is best done by professionals and comes at quite a steep price tag, but it straightens your hair permanently for up to six months!

There tend to be two ways to apply. For both, you need freshly washed and blow-dried hair without conditioner; the treatment is then applied and left on for up to an hour.

After that, the treatment is either rinsed out 30-50% and then blow-dried with the treatment still in and then straightened, whereas other brands can be blow-dried into the hair and straightened without rinsing.

This is then straightened, running the straightener over the ends of the hair three times for the keratin treatment to soak into the hair follicles– this doesn’t damage your hair.

After the treatment, it is recommended that you don’t wash your hair for as long as you can bear afterward, 2-3 days is recommended, but the keratin treatment will leave a smooth finish as there is still product in the hair.
