Step By Step Of How To Remove Acrylic Nails

Step 1:

The first step includes filing. Not just the tips of your nail but the entire surface as the hard acrylic needs to come off and be made thin as much as possible. You can use a coarse grit filer to do this which would make it much easier but a normal filer will do good too. You do need a very good filer for this as the acrylic can be hard to take off.

The thing you need to be careful about and pay close attention to is not to accidentally file your skin along the edges of the nail. This can lead to a bad bleed which could be dangerous. You can break in the new filer by using another filer over the edges to soften it as a new filer can be a little too coarse for your skin.

In case you do nick your skin and it starts to bleed, put pressure on the bleed so the blood does not escape. Call for medical assistance as soon as possible.

Step 2:

Since you want to remove acrylic nails at home, you need to be prepared for accidents. Always have a first aid kit with you.

Once you have gotten rid of as much acrylic as possible, you need to soak your fingers in 100% acetone nail polish remover for as long as it takes the acrylic nail to dissolve.

The acetone nail polish remover will thin the acrylic out and allow it to dislodge from the surface of your nail. You have two ways of carrying this out.

One is to soak balls of cotton in acetone and place them over your nails. Hold them in place with tape for a long time until acrylic starts to come off.

The other one is submerging your fingers in acetone for a long time which can be very harsh on your skin so try the cotton-ball method before trying this one. Acrylic nail is tough but the cotton ball technique is the superior method.

If you do decide to submerge your fingers in acetone, only dip the nail tips in acetone so you can prevent your finger and skin from drying out.

Make sure you use acetone in a well-ventilated room since it is very volatile and can badly irritate your respiratory system.

Step 3:

Now after treating your nails with acetone, you can gently scrape or buff off the remaining acrylic. During the soaking process, keep checking your nails after every 20 minutes and keep removing the acrylic that has been dislodged.

You can do this by using a stick or a cuticle pusher.

You will almost certainly find small areas from where the acrylic has not completely come off. You need to have composure and not get rough with them. You can use a soft foam nail buffer that will do the job well.

Removing acrylic nails at home:

While this was all about removing your acrylic nails using acetone, there is a way to do it without using it. You can simply use an acetone-free nail polish remover. Do note that using an acetone-free nail polish remover will take more time, and you will have to be patient with it.

The steps are the same as before. You will start by trimming the long sections of the nail as it will dramatically reduce the soaking time. The lesser the nail to treat, the quicker it will be.

Now you will once again use a 100-grit nail filer to remove as much of the acrylic as possible. You will realize how hard it could be to remove acrylic with a filer and how easy it is to get hurt. So, be patient and take your time. There is no need to hurry.

Soak a piece of cotton in acetone-free nail polish remover and wrap it over your nail in a piece of foil. Depending on how early it comes off, you will need to wait for 15 to 20 minutes (it could be longer). Gently push the soaked product away from your cuticles by using a stick or cuticle pusher.

If you are still left with residual acrylic on your nails, soak with cotton and apply briefly once again.

Now use the filer to shape the nails and gently buff them only if necessary. Wash your hands, and you are good to go!

These are all the ways, both acetone, and acetone-free, that you can use at home to remove acrylic nails. This means no more visits to the parlous just have your hands manicured. You can do it yourself!

It is now completely up to you if you want your nails handled professionally or if you want this technique at home. As long as you care for your nail surface and the tip, you will do great!

One more important thing is to keep your nails hydrated after and before the process. This allows them to be soft and hence makes it easy for the acrylic to come off. Make sure you also pay a very important visit to your doctor or dermatologist before doing this at home.

Things like making sure you have help on speed dial or a hospital nearby are very important. No matter how safe you think you are being, it never hurts to have help near you.

How to take care of your nails:

  • – Keep your fingernails dry and clean. This can allow the bacteria to grow under your nails and you won’t be able to see it if you have acrylic nails. Also, don’t keep your nails in water for too long as you can have split nails as a result of it. Wearing proper protective gloves while doing things like dishes or using the oven is very important.
  • – Use moisturizing by rubbing the lotion into your nails and cuticle. This will keep them soft and healthy.
  • – Asking your doctor for biotin is a smart move since this vitamin will help strengthen weak or brittle nails.

These are all the things you will need to have a nice experience removing acrylic nails at home. We believe everyone deserves to wear acrylic nails and not have to worry about taking them off.
