Let’s get straight to business.

Why your skin is not smooth

We all want to know how to get really soft skin, from when we are young, to getting older, there always seems to be something in the way of baby smooth skin.

Acne and breakouts- Teenagers go through it and many people later in life deal with hormonal or stress-related breakouts. Even the buildup of dead skin cells can cause acne.

Sun damage and hyperpigmentation- This can happen in the sun or from previous acne breakouts, it can leave scars and blemishes that don’t go away for years to come.

Wrinkles and fine lines- As you get older you can get lines and wrinkles where they didn’t use to be any. This is not completely inevitable.

Health conditions -such as eczema or keratosis pilaris

Environmental factors- Air pollution and your diet can affect your skin’s texture. Even the seasons such as cold winter can be a problem

Whether you’re going through one or more of these, finding the right skincare routine for you can really help to avoid and treat these pesky problems. The truth is so many of these things are treatable and even preventable, you just need to know how to handle them.

A tip- If you live in a very dry climate, use a humidifier at night to help add moisture to the air.

How to get clear soft skin

Here are some things to try that will get you that much closer to clear, soft skin.

1.Get Treated

Whatever the cause of your skin troubles, try to see if you can get treated. It might be worth seeing a dermatologist if you are breaking out more than usual, or if you have a skin condition as they can prescribe you some stronger medication that can help clear it up.

If your skin is sensitive to sun damage, then wearing spf is a must. For acne prone skin there are many products you can use that may help, look out for ingredients such as salicylic acid or glycolic acid to help unclog your pores and treat breakouts.

To even out your skin tone, there are a few things you can do.

2.Cleanse Every Day

The first step in getting good skin is starting off with a clean base. For that, you need to prep your skin by splashing it with water and using a cleansing gel or face wash to lather up your face and get rid of all the dirt.

A mild gentle cleanser is usually best, and you’ll need a separate product for your face and your body. Use a soft cloth or sponge if you choose, and a hydrating body wash that isn’t too stripping on your skin. Also, although we love those scalding hot showers, our skin doesn’t. Opt for warm water to help keep your skin hydrated.

3.Exfoliation

Once you’ve prepped your skin, you should incorporate exfoliation into your routine. That means getting rid of dead skin cells and the deeper oil buildup that is in your pores. If you have sensitive skin, you shouldn’t exfoliate every day, only twice a week.

There’s a couple of ways you can do this:

Exfoliating glove– you can use an exfoliating glove in the shower to exfoliate, but don’t use it on your face. It’s great as you only purchase it once and you can use it again and again.

Scrub- you can make your own DIY scrub with coconut oil and sugar, or buy either a body scrub or a face scrub. These are great for exfoliating your body and getting rid of dead skin cells but it may be too strong for your face. Be careful not to do this too often so as not to damage your skin’s barrier.

Chemical exfoliants- now this isn’t as harsh as it seems, but you can also get gentle acids mostly for your face. These are much gentler and less abrasive than sugar scrubs, but you need to be careful as they can make you more sensitive to the sun.

Whatever your preferred choice, you should aim to exfoliate a few times a week only. Remember, avoid exfoliating the sensitive areas, and pay attention to dry spots such as your feet. Exfoliating regularly is the key to slough off dead skin to reveal beautiful smooth skin below.

4.Pat dry

Notice I said pat dry not rub! We can be too rough with our skin sometimes, but for smooth skin, you need to be gentle. Pat dry with a fluffy towel, and leave your skin slightly damp, not fully dry as this is going to help to lock in moisture on the next part

5.Moisturize

This next part is super important, so if you ever feel like skipping it, just remember that smooth skin you want.

For your face, you’re going to need a moisturizing cream to hydrate your face that is suited to your skin type. Find out your skin type and buy a product that you love for this. Your skin may have different needs over time so don’t be afraid of switching up your product when it’s not working anymore. Try to incorporate hyaluronic acid into your skin care routine to help get smooth and soft skin. Don’t forget your lip balm!

For your body, grab your favorite body moisturizer and apply it while your skin is fresh out of the shower and on damp skin. Having damp skin is crucial for better hydration. Over time this will soften dry skin and rough skin.

Aim to moisturize your body every time you shower and your face daily after cleansing, it doesn’t matter whether you buy lotion or cream.

Make sure you moisturize daily, even if you have oily skin. If you have sensitive skin make sure you use a product made for sensitive skin, because irritated skin can be caused by using the wrong products for the skin types and this can make your skin feel rough.

6.Wear sunblock

You knew this one was coming, but wear SPF suncream after you moisturize! Of course, this applies mainly to your face, but applying sunscreen on your arms or legs if they won’t be covered up can have a huge impact on you making smooth skin. Harmful uv rays are a no-go if you want smooth skin. Protect your skin and it will thrive, it’s not worth the temporary tun for all the damage it will cause.

This is it, the perfect skin routine guaranteed to get you feeling smoother and add beauty.

Lifestyle changes

Now that we’ve covered skin routine, there are a few lifestyle changes that could ensure you get smoother skin.

A good night’s sleep

They weren’t lying when they talked about “beauty sleep”.

Between work and home, it’s late by the time we finish up, and we haven’t even relaxed yet, so inevitably we take the hours from what is left- sleep. A good night’s sleep can not only get you going in the morning but your skin can thank you for it too.

It’s the time your body takes to recharge, renew skin cells, and recover from the day’s work. Stressing your body and running on little sleep can cause you to break out and premature aging too. It’s the time when your body does collagen production and helps get rid of dead skin. This is one of the best ways to get soft skin at home.

A Healthy Diet

Everybody knows that you are what you eat, so if you eat healthy your body will naturally reflect that and be at its best. If you’re looking for soft and smooth skin, aside from eating the regular five a day, you’re going to want to incorporate vitamin C in your diet.

Vitamin C can help reverse some of the damage that sun has caused, to fade dark spots and brighten your skin. No wonder, it’s an antioxidant so it also helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The best way to do this is by eating foods rich in vitamins and minerals, but you can also buy skin care products that have vitamin C in them. It works by keeping free radicals away and the stressors caused by UV rays.

Drink water

Another one that sounds cliche I know, but its proven that drinking around 2 litres a day can get your body enough water for everything they need, including your skin. Your cells drink up this water and become plump, making your skin much more glowy and nourished that it was before. It also helps to wash away toxins, so its a good idea to get your daily water in.

Get some honey

Now, I know there are a lot of DIY home remedy myths out there, but trust me when I say that the pot of honey in your cupboard is a great product for your skin. There are so many properties of honey, and with alpha hydroxy acids (the opposite of beta hydroxy) and enzymes, it works by removing dead cells and cleaning out your pores in a way that is gentle for your skin. You can wear it as a face mask, for as little as 15 mins and remove it again easily with a warm washcloth. It’s basically a free natural moisturizer!

Build a nighttime routine

Yes, by the time it gets to nighttime we just want to flop into bed and forget the day. But if you want to know how to get soft skin overnight, then you need to have a nighttime routine. It can help get rid of dry skin or rough skin. Start with a basic cleanse and moisturize if you don’t want to do much. For an extra boost, I would recommend adding oil before you moisturize to lock in moisture, some people love to add in a face mask and lip balm too.

To help repair the skin’s natural barrier, getting a product with some retinol in it would be ideal. It helps to rejuvenate the skin as it is a form of Vitamin A which stimulates collagen production for younger-looking skin. Doing this routine at night can allow you to use heavier lotion or cream for better hydration so that in the morning you wake up feeling super soft. What better way to prepare for your beauty sleep than a night skincare routine?

Say Goodbye to dry and rough skin

You don’t need to be a dermatologist or spend a fortune on different products to know how to get baby soft skin face. Of course, seeing a dermatologist can help to treat specific skin conditions, but after that, it’s a case of wash, exfoliation, apply lotion, and generally looking after your skin’s needs from the inside and out.

Dry and rough skin is an issue for so many people, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Take some time in the morning, get your favorite cream moisturizer, don’t skip our on exfoliation and you are already well on your way to the skin you want.

If you want to go the extra mile, some people love to make their own natural skin products, such as a body scrub or a honey mask. This is pretty much free to make and is going to be super helpful in moisturizing your skin.

Whatever your skin’s concerns are, hopefully, this article has given you some useful tips to getting rid of dry skin and bringing you one step closer to your goal.
