The Best Aveda Products For Curly And Frizzy Hair

AVEDA Be Curly Shampoo

best aveda shampoo for curly hair

&qid=1643383259&sprefix=be+curly+shampoo+aved,aps,133&sr=8-6&linkCode=sl1&tag=brinked04-20&linkId=5008b6d333b8bdbdd23531976393a29c&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl” link_option_url_new_window=”on” text_text_align=”center”]

Up first is my favorite Aveda shampoo for all of my curlies out there; this professional shampoo will give your curls the love and care they deserve with a mega hydrating shampoo that will tame frizz, promote your natural curl pattern, and increase shine.

It is part of their 4-step curl perfecting system that dramatically reduces frizz and defines curls by up to 57% in comparison to untreated hair. It uses a brilliant wheat protein and organic aloe blend, which expands when wet and retracts when dry.

This is what causes the curl to enhance!

Aloe vera is one of my favorite ingredients for curly hair; there are so many benefits of using aloe vera. For starters, it is a humectant; it helps attain moisture from the environment, it also soothes and conditions the hair as well, and it unblocks hair follicles.

Since we curlies cannot use sulfates, aloe vera is a great cleansing alternative as it nourishes the hair while unclogging pores and leaving the scalp feeling fresh. Aloe vera also helps give curls bounce by locking in moisture and even providing hold.

Wheat protein also strengthens the hair shaft, helps infuse moisture, prevents breakage, and even adds shine. It helps to thicken hair by reviving brittle strands and strengthening from within. Anyone with curly hair would benefit from this ingredient.

To top it all off, this shampoo gives a refreshing citrus aroma with certified organic lime, lemon, bergamot, orange, and other pure plant and flower essences. It is yet another addictive smell that you won’t be able to get enough of!

This shampoo is perfect for weekly wash days, but Aveda also offers a co-wash for in-between wash treatments. Curly girls, Aveda has your back!

Pros
  • Nourishing and moisturizing ingredients
  • Helps combat frizz
  • Sulfate and silicone free
  • Also offers a co-wash for in between washes
Cons
  • None

Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer

Next up is the Be Curly Curl Enhancer By Aveda, which is one of the most famous products out of the line. It is made with wheat protein and organic aloe infused styling cream, which expands when wet and retracts when dry to intensify each curl.

This product intensifies curls, combats frizz, and boosts shine on wavy hair.

Aloe vera is perfect for enhancing the natural curl and has a natural light hold. Aloe vera is both a humectant and emollient, which means it helps attain and retain moisture, allowing the curl to thrive and bounce up naturally.

This curl cream is perfect for fine hair; the wheat protein is able to infuse fine strands of your hair with moisture, thanks to its lightweight texture. It is linked to repairing damaged hair follicles by embedding additional proteins into the follicle.

Wheat protein is brilliant at attracting water and moisture, adding volume and fullness to the hair.

It is a great lightweight but effective curl cream; it treats natural curls with the moisture needed without weighing them down. I usually hate the feeling of products in my hair, the stickiness, heaviness, or crunchy feel, but this product leaves my curls as soft as silk. It promotes the natural feel and gives curls that addictive bounce without the weight.

It leaves your curls smooth and defined, smells divine, and works wonders for conditioning and defining your hair. The geranium delivers a light floral aroma with lemon, bergamot, orange, and other addictive aromas that will leave your curls smelling as fresh as a daisy.

Plus, wait until you hear this; all of the ingredients are 95% naturally derived; it just gets better and better. It gets 5 stars from me. All you need to do is apply to wet or damp hair straight out of the shower and style as usual.

Whether you have curly or wavy locks, this product will make a hell of a difference.

Pros
  • Nourishes hair strands
  • Ideal for fine hair is mega lightweight
  • Intensifies curls and combats frizz
  • Addictive smell
Cons
  • Pricey but worth it

AVEDA Be Curly CoWash Shampoo

Any curly girl/guy needs a co-wash in their life; shampooing every other day is really bad for curly hair; no matter whether or not you have the most gentle shampoo ever, it strips moisture from the ends.

A co-wash, however, works as a conditioner but cleanses as a shampoo would. So it will freshen up your hair without compromising moisture. Co-wash will be your saving grace for curly hair; you never have to deal with greasy roots and dry ends ever again!

The Aveda Be Curly Co-Wash conditions and removes buildup from curls while cleansing your scalp. It uses a sulfate-free formula that moisturizes hair for up to 3 days after washing using their famous babassu oil that works wonders on curls.

So let’s talk about the legendary ingredient, babassu oil.

One of the best things about babassu oil is that it boasts a high moisture retaining capacity, so it doesn’t break down easily. It helps keep moisture from escaping once it’s on the skin, scalp, and hair shaft, keeping strands moisturized for long periods.

Hence why, it keeps hair moisturized for three days after use. It even helps prevent breakage.

This co-wash also helps combat frizz and improve the appearance of curls after every use. Using a co-wash in rotation of the be curly shampoo and conditioner will leave your curls soft, defined, and frizz minimized.

My only pet peeve about this product is that they only offer a 250ml bottle, and any curly girl knows that they’ll get through that bottle within a month, so I wish they offered a 1L bottle as it is truly brilliant for curl maintenance between washes.

Just be sure to buy a couple at a time, so you never run out of this brilliant product. Yoru curls will thank you later.

Pros
  • Keeps hair fresh and moisturized up to 3 days after
  • Great for in-between washes
  • Extremely hydrating
  • Leaves curls soft and manageable
Cons
  • Only offers a 250ml bottle

4.

Aveda Be Curly Conditioner

So now we’ve covered shampoo and co-wash, let’s talk about the conditioner. Just like the shampoo and styling cream, the conditioner also contains wheat protein and aloe blend which nourishes and defines your curls after every use.

They work together to expand when wet and retract when dry to tame frizz and increase shine.

What I love about this curly hair conditioner is that it is extremely moisturizing and creates enough slip to slip through curls and detangle with none of the snagging, pulling, snapping or ripping, it just allows the cbe curly™ conditioner

This daily conditioning product works to enhance the curl, combat frizz, and boost shine on wavy hair. It can be used as part of their 4-part system (we will cover this later) that dramatically reduces frizz and defines the curl up to 57%.

As I mentioned earlier the wheat protein and aloe vera work together to magically nourish and moisturize each individual strand of hair. This creates the best condition possible for the natural curl or wave to be enhanced naturally.

Plus with a refreshing citrus aroma from the natural blend of organic lime, lemon, bergamot, orange and other pure plant and flower essences it will leave your curls smelling luscious, you will smell your hair with every movement and will be counting down the days before you’re able to use this luxurious conditioner again.

Yet another winner in my eyes, plus they offer a 1L bottle, so you’ll never run out again!

Pros
  • Helps with detangling
  • Mega moisturizing
  • Provides slip
  • Helps with moisture retention
Cons
  • None

5.

Aveda Be Curly Style-Prep

When it comes to anything beauty-related, prep is key. You wouldn’t start putting foundation on before putting on your moisturizer and primer, now would you? So why should hair be any different? Well, for curly hair, prep is key.

Having a good foundation, to begin with, is key, so your other products can work to the best of their ability.

The pre-style treatment creates the perfect foundation for curly hairstyles; it detangles, moisturizes, and defines curls. It works as a leave-in conditioner to create a great foundation for the rest of the styling products, leaving curls frizz-free.

What I love about this pre-style treatment is that it adds moisture and curl definition as it seals the cuticle; it tames frizz all day. It helps with the detangling process to add elasticity to the strands to prevent breakage caused by combing.

It makes curls more manageable and leaves them soft and not crunchy like other styles while also offering hold.

It is made with the same wheat, and organic aloe blend that we love from the other be curly range, but these products expand when the hair is wet and retract when dry to intensify the curl or wave to offer frizz control all day long.

It is also infused with baobab and babassu oil. We’ve already spoken about how moisturizing babassu oil is for curly hair, but organic baobab has a high omega-3 fatty acid content; this can help with damage and offers insane levels of moisture.

Baobab oil can massively help moisturize dry hair and strengthen weak, brittle hair. It may not be high in protein, but it repairs damaged hair as other protein-rich products would do. Plus, the macadamia nut infusion can seal, soften and moisturize hair.

You may think I’m finished, but there are some more yummy ingredients within this formula.

Guar bean and plant-derived cellulose help to maintain curly styles throughout the day. Guar bean helps to hydrate the hair by sealing in moisture and can prevent frizz and static, while cellouse provides better hold to your hair, leaving it soft and smooth without leaving a greasy or flaky residue.

Plus, their signature scent of organic lime, lemon, bergamot, orange, and other delicious plant and flower essences leave your curls smelling fresh and looking amazing. After all, the prep for your curls is just as important.

Pros
  • Preps hair for styling
  • Detangles and hydrates hair
  • Infused with wheat, baobab, babassu oil, and aloe
  • Provides hold without flakiness
Cons
  • None

Aveda Texture and Styling Tonic Spray

Best Aveda styling spray for curly hair

Now while this product isn’t specifically from the be curly range, it is great for defining and enhancing the natural texture and creating piecey definition with 94% of naturally derived texture tonic. It is another staple in my defining kit.

The cane sugar and salt work hand in hand to create naturally tousled texture and flexible hold without giving a greasy or hard cast finish. It is infused with a natural shine for an effortlessly “undone” look. It creates effortless texture and defines curls.

Sugar cane extract has mega moisturizing and conditioning qualities that help protect hair from breakage. It is perfect for those with dry, coarse, curly hair textures that love the idea of a styling spay but don’t want the drying effect.

Pretty cool, right??

Well, this defining tonic also contains babassu oil to help promote that natural texture. As we already know, babassu oil helps boast a high moisture retaining capacity, meaning it doesn’t evaporate or break down easily. Keeping hair hydrated for longer.

Cane sugar is also a natural humectant, so it helps the hair attain moisture, while babassu oil helps retain it.

The salt provides beachy waves for those with loose waves and helps promote the natural shape of the curls without shrinkage. It provides incredible hold but a weightless feel; you won’t even feel the casting but notice the results!

This texturizing spray is perfect for those whose curls need a little bit of oomph.

Pros
  • Adds volume and texture
  • Provides hold but doesn’t compromise hydration
  • Has both humectant and emollient qualities
  • Provides lightweight hold
Cons
  • None

Best Aveda Products For Curly And Frizzy Hair-- A Buyers Guide:

If you’re looking for a professional brand for your curls that is sustainable, then Aveda is the one you should go for. It is one of the first companies to use 100% sustainable sources and the first company to use 100% wind power during the manufacturing process.

Their range of eco-friendly products boasts a blend of the finest plant extracts, which will suit any hair type, plus their curly hair range is something to get excited about. They contain plant-based alternatives instead of harsh chemicals.

There are many Aveda salons all around the US, they have taken the world by storm, and many salons love the shampoos, colors, styling products, and more. Plus, they are sustainable for the environment and offer brilliant results; you can use them guilt-free.

There are so many heaps of benefits for every hair type and every hair needs you’ll be sure to find a match that suits you perfectly. In this guide, I will be talking about the brand in more detail and reasons why you should make the switch today!

What Is Aveda?

Aveda is an American cosmetics company that is environmentally pioneering with its nature-based products for hair, skin, body, and wellbeing. Aveda products are created from pure flower and plant essences, no chemicals, no artificial colors or fragrances.

All these natural products and yet these hair product solutions are so powerful that Aveda calls them prescriptions.

They are a widely recognized path-blazing brand of nature-based products. They state in their story that “Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways we give back to society. At Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.”

Aveda is setting a path for other leading brands to follow, and it is the future of sustainable hair care. This is how:

Aveda Be Curly 4-Step Curl Perfecting System:

The four-step curl perfecting system by Aveda consists of four of the key products: be curly shampoo, be a curly conditioner, be curly curl enhancer and be curly style prep. It is a very simple routine that can be easily completed by any newbie.

However, I have a few tweaks to their system. You should try to only use shampoo and conditioner once a week and co-wash in between. So instead of using shampoo and conditioner, use co-wash, followed by the curl enhance and style prep.

While the shampoo is great for deep cleans, it can still be too harsh on curls. Aveda is an exception to other brands as their ingredients are far more natural. But for those with dry, coarse curls, the Aveda co-wash is brilliant.

Here’s how you can set up the four-step system:

Step 1: Few Minute Rinse:

You’ll want to do a weekly wash with shampoo and conditioner, then use a co-wash in between. But before we go in without shampoo, we want our hair to be sopping wet; I tend to do a 1-minute rinse with just water, massaging my scalp.

This helps to stimulate blood flow and help break down oil buildups. If you have low porosity hair, this is when you do a warmer rinse to help open the cuticle. This is beneficial, especially if you have low porosity hair as the cuticle lays flat.

Step 2: Massage Cleanser into your scalp:

Using the Be Curly Shampoo, massage it into your scalp for a further 60 seconds with the tips of your fingers and continue to massage while rinsing; the only thing that REALLY cleans your scalp is a good massage.

Make sure you don’t massage your curls above your head; this will make detangling your curls a painful and a hell of a long process. Be gentle and only focus on your roots while cleansing your hair; the last thing you want is stripping the ends.

Also, focusing on the roots prevents the ends from becoming a tangled bird’s nest.

But you don’t need to worry too much like you would with other brands, as the Aveda Be Curly Shampoo is derived from natural ingredients. But it does contain sulfates, which is why it is recommended for only once a week.

In most cases, sulfates are too harsh for curly hair, but the natural and nourishing ingredients within this shampoo compromise the dryness and don’t strip the hair from natural moisture as the others do. So don’t panic when you see this ingredient.

Step 3: Apply conditioner and start detangling:

With curly hair, brushing your curls while dry is a no-go. Instead, you have to detangle while wet, being extra careful as your hair is most fragile while wet.

This is why I recommend detangling with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb while the ends of your hair are soaked with conditioner; this will give your hair slip and help easily detangle knots.

Be patient and do this step in sections, starting underneath and working your way to the top; I do a rough detangle while the conditioner is on, then thoroughly after rinsing out and applying the curl enhancer as this acts as a leave-in conditioner.

Combing your hair while the conditioner is on the ends also helps encourage as much moisture as possible to enter the cuticle– which is ideal if you have low porosity hair. Using the Be Curly Conditioner will help replenish this moisture and strengthen it from within. It contains wheat protein, aloe vera, and babassu oil which are deeply nourishing.

Step 4: Apply styling products to sopping wet hair:

After showering, I prefer to work in sections when applying my styling products. Instead of applying them in the shower, I use a water spray, soak each section before applying my gel, and then style with my Denman Brush.

Most curly girls prefer to apply all their products in the shower before drying their hair, but I find I have a more defined curl when I use this technique. So using the Aveda 4-step method, I hop out of the shower, apply my curl enhancer first and detangle.

Remember to work in sections; this will ensure each curl is evenly covered, and you will have the best results from working in sections as it promotes each section of curl to take its natural form and bounce up. Also, by doing it soaking wet, it offers ultimate moisture retention.

Once you’ve worked through each section with the curl enhancer, then repeat using curl prep. Once you’ve styled each curl, then flip your head upside down and scrunch upward with your t-shirt; this should unlock your curls.

If you diffuse, then make sure you apply heat protectant, but alternatively, plopping or leaving to air dry is still a great alternative. You can even use the curl prep on the days you haven’t washed your curls to give them a little bit of a boost.

Using The Co-Wash

In-between washes, I would also recommend that you invest in the Aveda co-wash cleansing conditioner; it hydrates like a conditioner would but cleanses like a shampoo. For those with oily scalps and dry ends, a co-wash will change your curl game.

Here’s how you use the Aveda Co-Wash

Fully drench your hair with water:  Before you go in with the cleansing conditioner, you’ll need to soak until it is sopping wet; this should help loosen debris, making it easier to rinse out dirt and grime. Just as before, massage your scalp for a few mins.

This should also help distribute the product evenly throughout the hair to prevent any greasy spots where you may have gone overboard with the conditioner or accidentally missed it. It also helps break down grime to make the job of the co-wash easier.

Coat your hair with conditioner:  Forget the BS about how you need a dime-size amount of conditioner; when using a cleansing conditioner, you need enough to cover the root of your hair to the tip.

For some people, if it can be as much as a golf-ball-size amount, don’t be shy with the conditioner as remember you’re not just conditioning your hair but also cleansing. The only shame about Aveda is that they only offer 250ml bottles.

We curlies need MORE!

Massage, massage, and massage some more:  You want to massage your scalp like no tomorrow to help evenly distribute the conditioner from the scalp to the ends. This should help break down any residue leftover from your styling products. You should be massaging your scalp for at least 60 seconds.

This should also help stimulate the blood flow and remove all dirt and grime from your roots; you need to work it more than shampoo to notice the most benefits. Just because co-wash means cleansing conditioner, you shouldn’t feat putting it on your roots.

Once it has been evenly distributed and you have a spare few minutes, I would recommend leaving the Aveda co-wash on for 3 to 5 minutes (especially if your hair is particularly dry or damaged), and then it will act as a mask.

Then after those 5 minutes are up, I would recommend giving the ends of your hair a little scrunch, then rinse, dry with a microfibre or cotton t-shirt, and apply styling products; the styling curl cream and curl prep by Aveda work great together for a natural look.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do you use Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer?

As stated by Aveda, you should “Smooth generously on damp hair. Dry naturally or blow-dry with a diffuser for added volume and curl definition. “But as a curly girl myself, I would recommend applying generously to soaking wet hair in sections.

Using a styling and detangling brush (I love Denman), you should work in sections, starting underneath and applying a generous amount to each section (focus on the ends). Then detangle using the brush and create tension to promote the natural curl shape.

If you have heavy curls, Aveda also recommends that you “Twist large sections of hair into tight coils and secure ends to your head using large butterfly clips• Cover with a fine hair net to avoid flyaways and frizz • Blow dry with high heat using a diffuser.”

Give both a try to see which method you prefer!

How do you use Aveda Be Curly Style Prep?

Some people use the Aveda Be Curly Style Prep before the Curl Enhancer and some after; it all depends on your preference as in most cases you apply your moisturizer before your primer, and since the curl enhancer is considered a leave-in conditioner, you can do it first.

That being said, this is what Aveda says: “•Apply daily after being curly™ shampoo and conditioner to prepare your hair for styling and protect from frizz.•Work a small amount of product in hands, apply evenly through damp hair and comb to distribute.”

You should then ” Style with being curly™ curl enhancer to intensify curl, fight frizz, and boost shine.” You can also use the curl prep on non-shampoo days. All you need do is apply to damp hair and then comb through and style.

It will leave your curls silky smooth.

Where do you buy Aveda Be Curly?

You can buy Aveda Be Curly from a wide range of retailers online or from Aveda directly. If you have prime, you can also order off Amazon, but be careful and look out for fake products.

Summary

So there you have it, the best products by Aveda for curly hair. Whether you have loose waves or tight coils, there are many benefits of switching to Aveda for your hair care. It is vegan now and forever and uses super natural ingredients.

Give some of these Aveda Products a go today; you’ll be shocked by the hydration and curl definition that these bad boys offer.
